Bringing preparation into the schoolyard in Nigeria
School bags, bottles and stationery accompany the work of setting up, distributing supplies and taking part together.
At NEW LIBERTY (FREE) PRIMARY SCHOOL, SPARK personnel join students and accompanying adults for the distribution of learning materials and group activities. Blue clothing and caps, supply tables under tents and the open schoolyard form the setting. Organized bags, bottles and stationery become part of the interaction between students and the team.
Getting learning materials ready
School bags, water bottles, stationery and packing boxes are gathered together before the school distribution. Different materials are arranged in one place, ready for the work of moving them and setting up the activity. Branded clothing also appears alongside the prepared supplies.
Distribution includes more than the moment of passing an item to someone. Stationery to arrange, bottles grouped together and bags waiting to enter the activity all belong to the preparation. Each type of material has a place in the work before the handover.
Setting up at the school
At the school, team members move a table and organize stationery, bottles and packaging around the distribution area. Students and adults take part nearby. Tents and school buildings surround the space, with the supply table connecting preparation and the gathering.
Some people handle packaging, others arrange items or communicate nearby. These different actions take place around the same table as the prepared materials move into distribution. The organization behind the event becomes visible in work happening alongside other work.
Making the handover a shared activity
Team members pass learning materials to students while accompanying adults are present. Bags and other supplies move from the preparation area into handovers, with conversations taking place around them. Group activities in the schoolyard extend participation beyond each individual exchange.
The open space accommodates distribution, conversation and interaction. Students, personnel and other participants all contribute to the gathering, with learning materials running through its different stages. Education support takes the form of a particular school activity, involving preparation, organization and exchange.
From organizing supplies to setting up the space and meeting participants, this activity connects material support with involvement at the school. Bags, stationery and bottles matter, as does the work carried out around them.
